LAMBETH PALACE, LAMBETH

The Chapel crypt in the palace escaped serious damage following the direct hits to other parts of the building during the Blitz. It is seen here being used for the storage of books evacuated from the damaged Library. Lambeth Palace, the home of the Archbishops of Canterbury in London is also the centre of the Church of England and the Anglican Community, and has a large comprehensive library. Photograph published in the Sphere, May 3rd 1947.
