'A building Co-op at work on 34 & 36 Lingham Street', Stockwell. The Co-op was formed from homeless people installed in Lingham Street by Arcological in 1980-81.'There are around 6,000 empty publicly-owned houses [in Lambeth]. There are 15,000 people registered on the waiting list....Lambeth has a long history of squatting. For years the Council has simply ignored the related issues of squatting, empty property and single people's homelessness'.From 'As Safe As Houses', an exhibition on short-life housing in Lambeth put together in 1981 by Julian Quan with photographs by Peter Murphy.
