LONDON & WESTMINSTER FROM LAMBETH

LONDON & WESTMINSTER FROM LAMBETH

'The Prospect of London and Westminster taken from Lambeth by W. Hollar'. Wenceslas Hollar's panoramic view was originally engraved in 1647 probably using a Lambeth windmill as one of his vantage points. In this early 18th century reprint, his original copper plate has been reworked to include the new St Pauls, as well as other City churches. St Mary-at-Lambeth surrounded by elms dominates the foreground, as do the open fields of Lambeth Marsh. The horseferry can been seen crossing the Thames to Westminster.
