MARSDEN TOMB, NORWOOD CEMETERY, WEST NORWOOD

Tomb of Dr William Marsden (1796-1867), Norwood Cemetery, West Norwood. Marsden started a small medical practice in Hatton Garden for the free treatment of the poor. In 1828 it became the Royal Free Hospital for Women and Children and relocated to Gray's Inn Road. His interest in cancer led him in 1851 to set up a treatment centre in Westminster which became the Brompton Cancer Hospital (now Royal Marsden Hospital). Photograph by Eric de Mare
