MINET LIBRARY FIREPLACE, KNATCHBULL ROAD, BRIXTON NORTH

An inglenook fireplace at the Minet Library when newly-built in 1890. The library was the gift of William Minet to Camberwell and Lambeth. Although bombed in December 1940 during World War II, it continued offering a service from the basement until it was rebuilt and reopened in 1959. The library was formerly the home of Lambeth's Archives. Photograph possibly by F.D. Blackbee.
