No.2 NEALDEN STREET, STOCKWELL

Empty and boarded-up council-owned property in Nealden Street, Stockwell. 'There are around 6,000 empty publicly-owned houses [in Lambeth]. There are 15,000 people registered on the waiting list....Lambeth has a long history of squatting. For years the Council has simply ignored the related issues of squatting, empty property and single people's homelessness'.From 'As Safe As Houses', an exhibition on short-life housing in Lambeth put together in 1981 by Julian Quan with photographs by Peter Murphy.
