View showing two types of excavator shields used during tunnelling. This was the first tube railway upon which such shields were used on an extensive scale. James Henry Greathead, the inventor of the Greathead tunnelling shield lived in Leigham Court Road, Streatham and is buried in Norwood Cemetery. From 'Opening of the Morden Extension'.
