OLD BRIXTON FIRE STATION, FERNDALE ROAD, BRIXTON

The old Brixton Fire Station was situated on Ferndale Road, behind the Bon Marche department store, and built before it, c.1867. Although replaced in 1904 by a new station in Gresham Road, the building has survived and is now converted into offices.  This photograph of the firemen in uniform and their horse-drawn engine includes a group of boys made to pose on the ladder of the fire-fighting equipment to the left.
