The old Brixton Fire Station was situated on Ferndale Road, behind the Bon Marche department store, and built before it, c.1867. Although replaced in 1904 by a new station in Gresham Road, the building has survived and is now converted into offices. This photograph of the firemen in uniform and their horse-drawn engine includes a group of boys made to pose on the ladder of the fire-fighting equipment to the left. Linskey Postcard Collection.
