Walter William Clark aged 60 and from a family of Brixton bakers, dyed his hair to pass for a younger man so that he could enlist in the army to join his three sons. He was sent to the front as part of the Army Service Corps supplying food in lorries. However, when he ran out of hair dye, 'the game was up' and he was sent back to Britain.
