PORTOBELLO HOUSE, KNIGHT’S HILL, NORWOOD

PORTOBELLO HOUSE, KNIGHT’S HILL, NORWOOD

Portobello House at 154 Knight's Hill was the home of Mr Quilter, who contributed significantly to the restoration of St Luke's church in 1870. In an unneighbourly act after a disagreement, Mr Quilter erected a replica of the entrance to Maudslay's Engineering Works opposite Mr Maudslay's house in Norwood, so that he would have to endure the sight of his works even when at home.
