PROTESTANT MEETING, HORNS TAVERN, KENNINGTON

A card announcing an anti-catholic meeting by protestants at the Horns Tavern, Kennington, to petition the House of Commons against a parliamentary grant to the 'Popish' college of Maynooth, with Captain Alsager M.P in the chair. The college near Dublin was established in 1795 and trained 500 Catholic priests each year. It was at one stage the largest seminary in the world.
