QUEEN ELIZABETH’S HOUSE, BRIXTON HILL

Ivy House. This large house, which survived until the early 1900s near the corner of (now) Blenheim Gardens, was reputed to have belonged to Queen Elizabeth I. On the opposite side of the road stood Raleigh House, home of Sir Walter Raleigh's family and connected by underground passage to Ivy House. Postcard published by J. Blogg, 108 Brixton Hill.
