SCHOOL HOUSE YARD, OFF WESTMINSTER BRIDGE ROAD, LAMBETH

A plan of School House Yard, off Felix Street, near Westminster Bridge Road in Lambeth, showing 6 tenements 'occupied by poor people numbering about 80 individuals' and the sanitation flowing from privies beneath the stairs to an adjacent old cess pool shared with the slaughter house opposite. Also featured are; the dung hole for the stables, a hen house and pig stye, all belonging to Mrs Stubbs, the yard of a cork factory and premises belonging to Mr Kingston. The accompanying description by William Thomas Nixon, Churchwarden and Robert Hicks, Guardian of the Poor notes; 'Plan drawn by Mr Archbutt. This is the most objectionable place under our inspection. 2 families in each tenement. Jan 13th 1848.'
