SCULPTURE, VAUXHALL BRIDGE

Vauxhall Bridge is adorned with 8 classically-draped female figures. The upstream sculptures are by Frederick Pomeroy and represent; Agriculture, Architecture, Engineering and Pottery. Alfred Drury sculpted the downstream figures and they depict; Education, Fine Art, Science and Local Government. Illustrated here is Fine Art, with a palette and brush in one hand and a small nude statue in the other. The first Vauxhall bridge was built in 1816 and was replaced by the current one in 1906, which was designed by Sir Alexander Binnie.
