Model of the proposed new building for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of oil companies, which was displayed at the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy. The offices to be built on part of the site of the 1951 Festival of Britain in the South Bank, comprised two 11 storey blocks on either side of the Charing Cross Railway viaduct, the upstream section to include a 26 storey tower over 330ft high. The aerial photograph on the right shows the site and surrounding area including the Thames with a super-imposed drawing of the Festival Hall and the proposed Shell buildings. Photographs from the Builder, 11th May 1956.
