SHELL TOWER FROM JUBILEE FOOTBRIDGE, SOUTH BANK, WATERLOO

Photograph taken on 17th March 2004 from the Golden Jubilee footbridge, which replaced the older walkway by John Hawkshaw adjoining the Charing Cross (Hungerford) bridge. Designed and built in 2002 by architects Lifschutz Davison and the engineers WSP, the two bridges on either side of the railway bridge are made up of 300metre long concrete decks supported by a series of suspension masts and steel cables (as seen on the left). The 26 storey Shell tower on the right, built in the 1950s, was the tallest building of its time.
