SIR HIRAM MAXIM, ‘PIPE OF PEACE’ ADVERTISEMENT

An advertisement from 'The Sphere' for Sir Hiram Maxim's 'great curative invention - The Pipe of Peace', also called the Maxim Inhaler for colds, asthma and all lung troubles. Sir Hiram is probably best known however as the inventor of the Maxim gun, also referred to in this advert, dated 1st October 1910. He lived off Norwood Road in Thurlow Lodge, formerly the home of Lord Thurlow (1730 - 1806) the Lord Chancellor of England.
