Hermia Henry-Esezobor and her daughter Victoria in the South Connections mas costume band at the 2009 Notting Hill Carnival. Brixton-based Hermia, who grew up in Trinidad, came to England in the 1960s to work as a nurse and participated in her first carnival in 1974. South Connections is sponsored by Unison and Arts Council England. The designs for the 2009 carnival were by Shaun Carrington and themed on ocean cruising.
