St John the Evangelist was designed by Thomas Marsh Nelson (c.1817-84) in the Greek classical style and built 1840-42. The interior arrangement was altered in 1883 by TJ Bailey and the addition of a screen in the 1980s enables community events to be held within.Photograph by Sam Lambert.
