ST JOHN’S CHURCH, ANGELL ROAD, BRIXTON NORTH

ST JOHN’S CHURCH, ANGELL ROAD, BRIXTON NORTH

Two views of the Church of St John the Evangelist, situated at the junction of Angell Road and Wiltshire Road. Designed in the perpendicular style by architect, Benjamin Ferrey, it cost £5,302 to build. The church was completed in 1853 and a vestry and parish hall were added north of the church in 1882. It still stands largely intact, though the entire area has drastically changed since World War II following extensive bomb damage and the burgeoning of large public housing estates (in the1960s) to meet the post-war housing demand.
