ST MARY’S LAMBETH DRAFT BAPTIST REGISTER

ST MARY’S LAMBETH DRAFT BAPTIST REGISTER

Because black people were unusual in the early eighteenth century Lambeth the baptist register often gave additional information about them. The entry of George Blackmore on the 30 September gives his age, the name and address of of his master and, by implication, his trade: "George Blackmore a Negro about the age of 12 years belonging to Mr. Phillips at the sign of the Castle near Beaufort Buildings in the parish in the Fields." St. Mary Lambeth Register (1702 - 1710).
