STOCKWELL ORPHANAGE: BOYS’ GYMNASTIC DISPLAY

Boys' Gymnastics Display Team for a Festival in the 1910's or 1920's. The annual Festival was held on a day near to the founder's birthday of 19 June - and so was also known as Founder's Day. Visitors could tour the premises and meet staff and children as well as watch displays put on by the boys and girls. The boys often took part in a gymnastics display - this photograph dates from the 1910's or 1920's. Original image and copyright held by Spurgeon's Child Care Trust.Ref: IV/243/1-6, SPd 3541
