World War I medal winners from Sussex Road School in Brixton. 2nd-Lieut. Cuthbert Quin of the 1st Royal Fusiliers received the D.C.M. at Mons. Driver John Thompson of the Royal Marines Artillery was awarded a D.C.M. for bravery when rescuing wounded soldiers under fire at Ypres. Private William Hitchins of the Royal Irish Regiment received his D.C.M. for rescuing a wounded officer at Adencourt.
