The Tate Library in South Lambeth Road as designed by Sidney R.J.Smith, was built in 1887 and paid for by Henry Tate. It originally contained a newspaper and periodical room, reference room, lending library and a separate women's reading room.Ref: The Builder, Vol.53, No.2341, p.852, 17th December 1887
