‘THE ELDERS’ EXHIBITION BY FRANKLYN RODGERS, SOUTH BANK

Photographic portraits by Franklyn Rodgers placed beneath walkways on the South Bank as part of the 'Summer of Smiles' season. Titled 'The Elders', the portraits, along with sound recordings by Gary Stewart, document the first wave of West Indian immigrants to the UK in the 1950s and 60s. Named the Windrush generation, the sitters participated to explore the themes of their identity, local history and Britishness.Digital photograph dated 24th April 2011.
