THE LAWN, SOUTH LAMBETH ROAD, VAUXHALL

'The Lawn', No.51 South Lambeth Road, Vauxhall, was the home of Henry Fawcett and his wife, the notable suffragist Millicent (1847–1929), whom he married in 1867. He was a statesman, Postmaster General and professor of political economy. The house was demolished and site used for Vauxhall Park, which was first proposed in 1887. A statue by George Tinworth of Henry Fawcett was erected on the site of the house, but was demolished by the council in 1959. Watercolour by J.V.Thompson, dated 1885
