VAUXHALL GARDENS, VAUXHALL

Vauxhall Gardens, Vauxhall. Madame Saqui the celebrated tight-rope walker. Her act included dancing the allemande on three ropes and descending, lit with fireworks, from 60ft to 15ft along the walk. The pleasure gardens are now marked by Tyers Street and Spring Gardens, renamed Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens in 2012. Engraving from an original painting by Hutchisson of Bath, published for La Belle Assemblee No 132, 1st February 1820.
