VIEW OF LAMBETH PALACE FROM THE THAMES

Engraving showing Lambeth Palace,the London home of the Archbishops of Canterbury, from the Thames. The occasion being Lord Mayor's Day, 9th November, the gilt barge of the Stationers' Company can be seen on the left. It was their custom to visit the Palace after Westminster, where the Archbishop came on board bringing cakes, buns, hot spiced ale and wine, which was served in wooden bowls with handles, called 'sack-cups'.
