The SOE Memorial on the Albert Embankment featuring Violette Szabo to represent the many agents of the Special Operations Executive who assisted resistance members and performed acts of sabotage behind enemy lines during World War II. Szabo spent much of her childhood and youth in Brixton and is the most commemorated person in the Borough of Lambeth, featuring on four memorials. She was captured whilst on a mission, tortured and put to death at Ravensbruck Concentration Camp, receiving a posthumous George Cross. This bronze bust by the sculptor Karen Newman was unveiled on 4th October 2009.
