VOP & WILL BARRAS ARTWORKS, LEAKE STREET, WATERLOO

Car artwork by Will Barras in front of a wall by the graffiti collective VOP (Visual Orgasmic Pleasures) created for August 2008's Cans Recycled Festival in Leake Street, Waterloo. VOPstars was formed in 1988 by Dane, Solo One, Mear and Stylo. They are renowned for producing graffiti-style artworks and murals in Lambeth, subverting brands, cartoon characters and popular imagery to produce works that 'appeal to ordinary people without relying on hype or gimmicks'. The main influence for this artwork in Leake Street, Waterloo, was a 'survival of the fittest' theme, featuring a quote from Charles Darwin. Leake Street was initally used for the Cans Festival in May, however, due to the ephemeral nature of street art, most artworks only survived for a short time before being obliterated by tags or new works. Digital image dated 25th August 2008. From the Graffiti Gallery, recording Lambeth's urban art.
