WHITE HART, KENNINGTON LANE, KENNINGTON

WHITE HART, KENNINGTON LANE, KENNINGTON

The White Hart public house at 184 Kennington Lane was opened c.1746 and rebuilt in 1897. It has had numerous names since this photograph was taken, but still is a drinking venue. An early mention of the pub is from a 1764 newspaper: 'A lady, attended by her servant, on horseback alighted to drink tea at Mr Blake's, the White Hart....when the landlord got on the lady's horse, which reared up on its hind legs, and fell back on Mr Blake, who died on Saturday last of the bruises he received by the fall.'
