WILLIAM BLAKE

William Blake (1751 -1827), poet and artist, lived in Hercules Buildings, Lambeth with his wife Catherine from 1790 - 1800. Here he wrote some of his most well-known poems including 'Songs of Experience', and 'America'. The house was demolished c.1917-18. From an engraving by L.Schiavonetti after T Phillips, printed in 'William Blake: Painter and Poet' by Richard Garnett, published by Seeley and Co., London 1895.
