WORLD WAR II ARP FORM: GRACE HENDERSON, WEST NORWOOD

ARP Scheme Application for enrolment in the First Aid & Medical Services as a driver from Mrs Grace Aird Henderson of 7 Ardlui Road, West Norwood. She states: 'Aged 39 years. Occupation Secretary - Nurse. Drove ambulances in Great War. Have over 20 years driving experience. N.A.D. Services in Great War. Certificates in First Aid & Home Nursing, Invalid cooking etc'. Dated 17th March 1938. A letter from Mrs Henderson to O.L.Roberts, Lambeth Town Clerk, dated 26th August 1938; 'I had your letter of 24th inst. And regret to see that you have 'blacklisted' me. As a matter of fact I am an enthusiastic member of the A.R.P. having volunteered in the first place as an ambulance driver.' The misunderstanding arose from her being unable to attend the requisite training lectures due to work commitments.
