WORLD WAR II DEEP SHELTER, CLAPHAM COMMON

The World War II Deep Level Shelter built beneath the Northern Line under Clapham Common. This is one of the sixteen shelters designed to accommodate 8,000 people during air raids and the original bunks on the left are still in situ, preserved when used as racking for archival storage. The shelters were named after British Admirals and listed in alphabetical order. Digital photograph taken 16th March 2015.
